Verve's June Project Parade

Butterly Garden

One of my favorite new Verve sets is Petals & Stems, so I thought I'd show you another card that I made recently using it.

Remember I told you yesterday that I am on this new blue and green kick? Well, looky-looky, another blue and green card (and can't forget to mention the black I added.....see how it makes the blue and green just jump out?????), fancy that.

I stamped a bunch of different flower sizes in Brocade Blue and Old olive, and then layered them together using dimensional tape. Each flower was outlined using my Stardust Gel pen. The flower "vines" were stamped on Whisper White using Old Olive ink.

Since typically wherever there are flowers, butterflies are not far behind, I was sure to include a few butterflies flying around the flowers! I really let the stamps do the talking on this card, so there isn't much other "stuff" muddying up the front. Just a simple straight stitch around the main image using my Janome Sew Mini is all it needed to finish it off.

Today is the boys last day of school for the year. Youngest Son is at Valleyfair, the local amusement park with his class, while Oldest Son is suffering miserably taking some hard finals in school. They are both so excited to be done! Today I have a luncheon with the local NBC affiliate at the Interlachen Country Club, home of the 2008 US Women's Open. The Open is June 26-29th at Interlachen in Edina, MN. I wonder if I can sneak in a practice round while everyone else is lunching? Sounds fun to me!!!

Shadow Box Card

Hey, have I already shown you this card? I can't remember. I know I uploaded it to the Verve blog a while back, but I'm blanking on whether or not I've written about it here. Oh well, forgive me if you've seen this peeps! You might just have to look at it again.....


Cammie got me started making these shadowbox cards a month or so ago....I love them! This was actually the very first shadowbox I ever made, and I have to say, it was pretty easy. I used K & Co designer paper (Berry Sweet Collection) for the box, and the butterfly stamps are from Fluttering By, one of Verve's newest stamp sets, released a week ago tomorrow.

Nestabilites make cutting out the window part of the box so easy. Just lay your die down on top of the paper, roll it through the Cuttlebug and you have yourself a window! The scallop frame was made but using a scallop Nestability die and then putting a smalling regular rectangle die inside the scallop to cut out the middle. Don't know if I explained that very well....directions aren't my strong suit!

The sentiment is from Verve as well, from the new set called Petals & Stems. I cut it out using my oval punch and then matted it on a scrap of coordinating designer paper and cut it out using decorative scissors.

So yesterday was my last BSF class for the year! What an 8 months it's been. I was invited into leadership on 8/31 of last year, on 9/17 Doug lost his job, and on 9/26 my MIL passed away. Almost from our very first leadership meeting, we have been dealing with heartache in some way, shape and form. We had our final leaders meeting this past Tuesday morning. It was a breakfast at the home of one of the other leaders. We gathered for food and fellowship and it really was wonderful. I had prayed in the few weeks prior to our breakfast that God would bless Doug with a job so I could close out the BSF year telling my fellow Discussion Leaders at this breakfast that God had answered our prayers and blessed Doug with a new job! Well, you've heard it before I'm sure, that if you want to see God laugh, tell him your plans! I'm sure he was having a big ol' belly laugh at this little plan I had hatched up in my mind!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sit at this breakfast Tuesday and tell my fellow DL's that God had blessed Doug with a job, but I was able to tell them what God HAS done for me through the study of Matthew this year....

• I have learned what it means to be utterly dependant on God. I would not be here today, in as good of spirits as I'm in and with as much hope as I have without the strength and grace of Jesus Christ. He has truely equipped me through the study of Matthew to trust in Him and in his sovereign plan for our lives. We don't know what those plans are, He hasn't fully revealed them to us yet, but we are trusting His plan is the best plan.
• I have learned that obedience to His will is never easy or convienent. I'd be fooling you if I told you this walk has been easy, that I've had 100% trust every step of the way. But I haven't. I've tried to hijack the wheel so many times over these past 8 months only to find myself lost and alone and overwhelmed. Because of this, I have learned that it is only in my weakness that God is fully able to show me his strength and power in my life. He has lifted me up and carried me each and every time I tried to carry myself. Allowing myself to be weak was key to becoming strong through Christ.
• Through Matthew 6:24-35, I have learned that if I seek the Kingdom of God and live righteously through Him, He will give me everything I need. Worry does not add a single day to my life. And if God so cared for the birds and wildflowers, how much more will He care for me? In my obedience to Him, He has blessed me more than words here can convey. Through the prayers, encouragement of love of my BSF leadership group, and also through all of YOU, God has shown His love for me. He is ever faithful. He has held me up through the dark days. He has provided for our every need. And I give Him all the thanks.

On the cancer front, we found out yesterday that there has been some shrinkage in the tumor in Ken's skull, and that it hasn't penetrated the brain yet! Praise God. These were the test results from the MRI he had a week ago Thursday. Tomorrow, they meet with their oncologist to go over the test results from the CT scan. Pray for more good news. Ken is actually feeling good and is experiencing less pain. The meds are kicking in and are being managed well. It's nice to have good news for a change!

Well, I think I've talked your ear off long enough today. Sorry for rambling, but I really felt moved to share with you about what I've learned in BSF this year. It really has been a blessing in my life!

Verve News!

That Julee over at Verve is a whirling dervish, did you know that? She's been pumping out set after set and today is no different. That's right, today is the day Verve Visual releases four more NEW stamp sets! I can not fathom where that girl gets her energy and drive...

It's a Verve Sneak Peek!!!

Over at the Verve blog, today is another sneak peek at one of Verve's newest stamp sets, being released on Friday. This set is called Father Figure, and can be used for ALL the special men in your lives!

I combined two Verve sets on this card, Father Figure, which is words and sentiments only, along with Seeing Stars. I stuck with "manly" colors, Basic Grey, Old Olive, and Brocade Blue.

Is your dad, or your husband the star in you life? Now it will be easy to let them know how you feel about them with this new set. The main verse in the set says this...."there are so many words that define you. You're a man of integrity, a role model, provider, protector, teacher and friend..." . Wow. Could Julee have chosen a better verse to tug at the ol' heartstrings? These are such powerful words!!! I for one am so thankful Julee realized that stamps celebrating men are in short supply in this industry! We needed a set this this, didn't we?

A Prayer Journal

By the time you read this it will be after 8am Wednedsay morning, but right now, as I type it, it's only 2:50am. My nose is SO plugged from what appears to be allergies, that I couldn't sleep laying down anymore. So, I'm trying the standing-up version of sleeping, only my sinuses still aren't draining. My eyes are overflowing with water, and my nose/skin hurts from blowing. After I did the nasal rinse last night, I decided to go to bed because it hurt too much to stay away and sneeze all the time. I would have thought the nasal rinse would have cleared things up, but instead, I think it made things WORSE, although I don't know how that could be. After I did the nasal rinse both nostrils plugged up. I am hoping and praying these sinuses get better before I have to head to BSF this morning.

I just thought I'd share a quick prayer book that I made for someone who requested two. This is one of them I made. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and I'm hoping the person I made it for likes it too (that would be you Ann L.!!!!). Of course, I love the papers I used on the journal (My Minds Eye/Confetti Collection) and want to keep it for myself! These little journals are so much work, don't you think? They're putzy. And as I'm typing this, I just realized I forgot to put ribbon on the coils, but I don't think it really needs any ribbon. What do you think? I'll have to think about it. I certainly have the time to think about it while since I'm up at 3am, don't I? I'm hoping to head back to bed soon, but these darn sinuses will just not drain!

Well, since I've got the time, I just wanted to give you the heads up about a few things happening at Verve this week! A Verve Sneak Peek!

My hubby and I are celebrating our 22nd wedding anniversary in a few months and I can hardly believe it! Twenty-two years? Funny, I don’t feel a day over 25…..NOT!

Anyways, the good news is that I’ve got my sweetie’s card made already since I was lucky enough to have been asked by Julee to make a card using one of Verve’s newest stamp sets called Anniversary Birds. It is the most adorable set, with the most adorable little birds you’ve ever seen. I LOVE how I can make the birds appear like they’re kissing…awwww, isn’t that sweet? That’s exactly what I did on this card….the two little lovebirds are kissing, right there, front and center, for the whole world to see. I don’t think my sweetie will miss the message I am trying to convey to him with this card…that I love him dearly, and that being with him is the perfect way to spend a lifetime. Is that sentiment not amazing???????? It totally sums up in one fell swoop how I feel about my guy. I know I hit the jackpot when he asked me to marry him that fateful day—with this set, it made it really easy for me to tell him so!

Sweet Treats

I've had this adorable bucket from Target for a few weeks now, and have been dying to alter it in some way. It didn't need much, since the bucket already had lots of personality with the horizontal red, pink and white stripes traveling around it.

To keep things simple and easy, I took out my favorite new Verve Visual stamp set, Heart to Heart, and started stamping them with Versamark onto Real Red cardstock. Then I sprinkled a creamy white embossing powder all over and heated them so they were shiny and bright. When I cut them out, I made sure I left a small red border around the hearts so it made them pop a little bit.To attach the hearts to the can, I used dimensional tape on the back and just stuck them on the bucket. There are two on the front, and two on the back (which, of course, you can't see).

I dug through my scrap ribbon jar for red, pink and white ribbons, and tied those onto the bucket handle. I used rectangle Nestabilities to cut out the rectangle gift card. The pink panel is also cut from a Nestability Die. For the heart on the front of the card, I embossed the Swirl outline stamp (I'm not sure how else to describe the heart I used for this one), and then for the inside heart, I stamped the heart with Versamark, and then used Heat & Stick on it to adhere very fine glitter! It's SOOOOO sppppparrrrrkkkly in real life! I adhered it on top of the outline heart using dimensional tape. A few colored rhinestones complete the look!

If you didn't already guess, I stuffed the tin with regular and peanute M & M's!! Yummy! I can't decide who I want to give this adorable little gift too, but I'd better decide quick before I eat up all the M &M's!

Simple Stars

Today is the day that Verve Visual debutes 5 new stamp sets! Julee's got a great package deal for you if you buy all 5 sets, so be sure and get over there fast this morning to see what fantastic deal she's got up her sleeve.

While working with all the new sets, it became important to me to create something that the average stamper (which probably equates to 90% of all stampers) could create on their own. So much of what we do on design teams is over-the-top and probably not something the average stamper might take on and recreate themselves. Our over-the-top designs show off the stamps really well, but in the end, I think what the customer cares about is if the stamps will look just as great in their simple, easy stamping style as it does on a card that's been all glamed up for promotional purposes.

I think Verve's stamps fit both styles really well. As you can see, my card today is a simple one. I took a piece of scrap Basic Grey designer paper, stamped two different sized stars in two different colors on front, and then mounted it on a piece of Really Rust cardstock. My card base is kraft cardstock. I stamped the sentiment directly to the Basic Grey paper as well, eliminating an uneccessary layer. For some added dimension and "wow" (in a simple way) I stamped a few more stars onto a piece of Basic Grey patterned paper and then cut the stars out and mounted them to the front of the card with dimensional tape. And that's it. The card probably took 10 minutes max and looks great! Anyone, design team member or not, can make Verve's stamps look great, whether you take it BIG, or whether you keep it simple. That's the nice thing about Julee's designs. They are simple, classic and uber cool!

I'd knew I could grab your attention with a headline like that! You heard me right. New stamps. For you. Yes, you!

What KIND of stamps, you ask? Jeepers, you guys are demanding! Ok, I'll spill. Right here, at Heartfelt Greetings, you have a chance to win a Verve Visual stamp set called Starlight Starbright Remixed!

My nugget tins are here!

That's right! I ordered a boatload of these awesome, clear-top hinged tins a LONG time ago, and they were just finally delivered to me. They were on back order for so L ...O...N...G! I was in the process of trying to cancel my order (because they couldn't guarantee they'd be here before Christmas) when they called to tell me they were shipping! Yippee!

So, I whipped up a few of these little babies right away for the Verve Visual blog. Today was my day to post something, so I got busy and made not one, but TWO nugget tins! The first one I made I used Verve's Winter Wonder stamp set. I stamped one of the large snowflakes on 12 mailing labels using Certainly Celery ink. Then I wrapped a label around each candy (and you'll be happy to know I didn't eat a single piece of it in the process!).

For the outside of the box, I stamped three different sized snowflakes on a strip of white cardstock, in three different colors: Certainly Celery, Purely Pomegranate, and Brocade Blue. I mounted the strip on a piece of Certainly Celery cardstock and then cut a decorative border down each side. I wrapped this decorative strip around the tin and adhered it to the back using double sided tape. To finish it off, I stamped a sentiment in the middle of a white circle and mounted it on a Certainly Celery scallop circle and then glued it to the white decorative strip that was wrapped around the tin.

For the second tin, I wanted to use an even older Verve set called Fancy Florals. I think this was the second set Julee released, and I haven't used it in forever. To make the flower on the top of the tin, I first stamped one of the floral images in the set onto a piece of designer paper using Purely Pomegranate ink. Then I stamped a smaller floral image on a coordinating striped paper. I mounted the smaller flower on top of the large one and then outlined the whole thing using my Signo White Gel pen and my Stardust Gelly Roll pen. The center of the flower is a Rain Dot by Cloud 9. For the sentiment, I covered a chipboard tag with a piece of pink scrap paper. The sentiment, also from Verve (Thoughtful Phrases), was stamped using black ink right onto the chipboard. I tied two ribbons around the tin (pink and orange), and then mounted the Fancy Florals flower on top of the ribbon using glue dots. The sentiment is attached to the ribbon using gold cording. The labels around the candy were made using more Fancy Floral images stamped in Pumpkin Pie and Purely Pomegranate. The white dot center of each flower is made using my Signo White Gel pen.

And there you go, two lovely nugget tins ready for gift giving! So much fun! I can't wait to make up the remaining 18 nugget tins that came in my order {{{{gasp}}}}! Yes, I was a little piglet and ordered a bunch. But heaven forbid, they were CHEAP. And what perfect gifts they make. I couldn't refuse. I'm so glad I didn't cancel my order!!!

Today I am taking a break from "work". The hubby and I plan on going to the Mall of America to get some shopping done this afternoon and maybe even have a bite to eat there early evening so we can turn the outing into a "date" of sorts. I'm really looking forward to hanging out with him for a while outside the house and having some together time again, which we really haven't had in a very long time. His style of shopping drives me crazy though, so it will be a challenge!

The rest of the weekend holds more basketball. We play at 1230p tomorrow afternoon, again at 3 or 4, and we could have a 7pm game as well. Ugh. Another long one in the works, folks. Another sore butt (from sitting on bleachers) is imminent, I guess!

My Varks Card

Obviously, you don't need to put as many beads on your card front as I put on this card of mine.....

but if you want to, go for it! You can use any kind of beads; micro, bugle beads, metal beads, clay beads.....whatever you can find in your house, put it on your card! And if glue works better for you than thread, use that or sticky tape (that's a direct challenge to Beate.....;)! Try something new today.

I had so much fun making my first beaded card. Like I said yesterday, it just came together like butter--I love it when that happens. I started by picking out the designer paper I wanted to use. I knew I wanted it to use fall colors. I recently found this gorgeous new paper by Heidi Grace at Archivers. I snatched a bunch of it up and used it for the first time on this card. The pattern is called Harvest Row. I matted it with So Saffron cardstock. Then I sewed all the way around it using a zigzag stitch. I glued it to a base of Old Olive cardstock. At that point, I decided I wanted to sew the card on the far left, from top to bottom, so that I had a "binding" of some sort to place a plethora (such a big work at 714am in the morning....) of beads strung on wire.

Once I did that, I used my paper piercing tool and template to punch a row of holes that would be used to string the wire through. Again, like yesterday's card, I pulled the wire UP from the bottom of the card to the top of the card, and then strung a bunch of beads on the wire (maybe 8 or 10?). When that was done, I took the wire around to the BOTTOM of the card and pulled it through to the top again. Ultimately, I wanted the wire that was strung with beads to look like a wired notebook (just like the ones the kids take to school). Every time you put the wire through the paper, you are moving from the bottom to the top. It's probably easier to just look at this closeup than trying to understand my directions!

I'm sure with all these beads you're thinking the card must have taken me all afternoon to finish, but it really didn't! Maybe a half hour on the beads alone, which isn't too bad.

For the main image, I used the new SU stamp set called Oh So Lovely. I love this set! And I love incorporating all the stamps, and not just using them one at a time! For this image, I used all three flower stamps! They were stamped on Very Vanilla using ColorBox Fluid Chalk ink in Chestnut Roan. Then I watercolored each of them using Old Olive, Cranberry Crisp and More Mustard inks. For a little sparkle, I outlined a few of the flowers with my Stardust Gel Pen. Since I was on a bead roll, I sewed a few beads on the flowers too! Now, this step could have easily been done with glue, but I'm a glutton for punishment so I thought I'd sew them on! The sentiment is new from Hero Arts, which I stamped on Very Vanilla with Chestnut Roan.
