Eerily Quiet

It's eerily quiet around here.

My sweet boys just left for the airport, to fly to St. Petersburg, FL for their church choir trip. My hubby is in Indianapolis for the Big 10 basketball tournament. So I'm all alone in this big, quiet house.

Now, the funny thing is, I usually DREAM about moments like this! I dream, (ok-fantasize), about having the whole house to myself with nary a rugrat in it tugging on my sleeve begging for money...no one here throwing their belongings onto every stitch of furniture in the place. No fights to break up, no husband to entertain. Just me, myself and I. And the peacefulness. Unfortunately, now that I have it, I don't want it anymore! I miss the boys already! Dang. What a weakling I am. Isn't this the way it goes...we always want what we don't have, right? And then when we get it, we discover we don't really want it after all. Go figure.

Well, since no one was going to be around all weekend, I decided to go to the crafty ladies retreat that my church is having Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's at our church retreat center which is just a few miles down the road from me. I think it will be more fun to be surrounded by a bunch of other women doing crafts than to be by myself doing crafts in my eerily quiet house. Don't you agree?

Speaking of houses, what do you think of this fun card I'm sharing today? I love, love, love how it turned out. The stamp set is by PTI and is called Boards and Beams. I'm just tickled with it. I love how I was able to incorporate my love of patterned paper together with the stamps. The house is completely paper-pieced....doors, siding, windows, roof. It took some time to put together, but the overall look is exactly what I was hoping for! The button is vintage, from my collection that I got from my MIL's stash after she passed. This is an "Amy" card through and through and I'm glad I made it!

I hope you like it!

Have a great day! I'm going to go wander around my house now smelling and clutching my children's clothing so I don't miss them so much. Just kidding. I'm going to start packing for the retreat I'm heading to tomorrow night. Have a super day!

Hugs,

Amy

  1. Lucky Girl!!! I wish I could get that lucky but my kiddos are a bit too young for all that still. Enjoy your crafting time, can't wait to see what you create.

That card is wonderful. Enjoy the peace and quiet. It's only in small doses. You are so lucky to have that retreat. Have a good time.

  4. Absolutely lovely. I love how you incorporated the tree from Father Knows Best. I am in love with PTI stamps and am going to be in trouble again this month.

  5. Awesome card, Amy!!! The thought of paper piecing that house boggles my mind. : ) The saying is a favorite of mine.

Your retreat plans sound like a good idea. It's more fun to be home alone when your family is just gone for the day or evening -
then it's a treat. Have a wonderful time.
