Triumph Tuesdays

As most of you know, I have chosen the word TRIUMPH to be my word for 2008. In honor of this word and the importance it will hold in my life this coming year, I have decided to make Tuesdays at Heartfelt Greetings Triumph Tuesdays. Each Tuesday, I'll address one of the things I'm determined to triumph over this year. I'm hoping to tie it into a piece of art in some form (most likely using my beloved designer paper), whether it's an altered item, a card, a scrapbook page, etc.

Before I could move forward with the word TRIUMPH though, I needed to research exactly what the word means, according to the dictionary. I wasn't all that happy with the dictionary definitions I found; I liked bits and pieces of them, but none really pinpointed for me what I want this word to mean in 2008. So, I did a little revising and rewording to come up with with my own definition of what it means to triumph:

TRIUMPH: To prevail, prosper and flourish over struggles, difficulties and challenges.

Not only can I PREVAIL, but I can PROSPER and FLOURISH over these struggles, difficulties and challenges too? WOW! Isn't that wonderfully motivating?

To start my first Triumph Tuesday off with a bang, I made this 12x12 piece of canvas art, which I will hang on my wall in my office. On the canvas, I spelled out my word with chipboard letters (the M is actually a W, but what the heck, I had all the other letters and I wasn't about to go to the store to buy more!), and also printed out my definition for the word TRIUMPH. Underneath that, I listed all the things I want to TRIUMPH over in 2008....grief, unemployment, self-doubt, negative thoughts, weight/exercise and prayer. At the bottom of the canvas, I printed a bible verse that will inspire me to work on these challenges in my life over the course of the year. However, I realize it is only through the power of Jesus Christ that I will triumph over ANY of these whatsoever. The bible verse is from Psalms 25:2-3...."oh Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in you, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others". I envision all of these challenges as my enemies, and trust that God will help me TRIUMPH over them! Woo-hoo!

I am tickled with how my canvas turned out! It's sitting right here in front of me on my little wall shelf. It's at eye level, right behind my laptop. I'll see this every morning when I come down here to work, and there it will be, reminding me, daily, that I will TRIUMPH in 2008!

Hugs,
Amy

    Amy,

Good for you!! Yes, Triumph is an excellent word for you this year. Those negative thoughts...we can kill ourselves with them, can't we???

Funny you used a "W" for an "M"...your willingness to be flexible demonstrates your "triumphant" attitude. I purchased a "W" stamp at my local stamp store yesterday for just the same reason. They were having a huge close out sale and I needed an "M", but they didn't have one.

Great minds think alike, they say. LOL!!!!

I'm still praying for you...now I can add "that she triumph over all things that are stress in her life" to my prayers.

    God Bless,

    Mary L.

  3. It appears as though your very first TRIUMPH was to overcome the fact you did not have the letter M, but were able to "prevail" in order to complete your task. In the completion of this task of your 12 x 12 page, you have "flourished" because there it is, right in front of you. Well done, Amy! Already you are moving in the right direction.

  6. How inspiring! Your wall hanging is wonderful and your words are motivating. I'll remember to pray for you when I come to your blog.

Phil 4:13 I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

I'm still in clean up mode, but as soon as I'm done, I'm going to create a hanging reminder of my goals. I didn't choose a word for this year, but all my goals require me to be diciplined so I'll choose a word that will remind me to "just do it".
    Have a blessed day!

You go, girl! What a wonderful and constructive way of handling all of these challenges in your life. I agree that, without Jesus Christ, you cannot overcome any of these challenges. I am so impressed with your canvas and feel that you are well on your way of putting your challenges into the Lord's hands and letting Him take care of them . . . in His time and way. Thanks for sharing!

The word triumph is a good word for the year. My sister-in-law found out today that she has beat cancer for the 4th time. Her saying was that 2008 is great!

I love your beautiful canvas, and admire your determination to prevail, prosper and flourish. I have great faith that you will!

My church passed out paper stars at coffee hour the first Sunday of 2008; each star had a different word on it that we are to focus on this year. My randomly chosen star said "Gentleness." I think of myself as a gentle person, but God must want me to give this some more thought. Thanks to you, I am inspired to make a canvas to place over my work table, so I'll keep this in my mind.

Amy, May God bless your journey in 2008!

Love how your canvas turned out...and enjoy your sense of style and design very much.

I'm a former MN girl (grew up in Bemidji) transplanted to Idaho in 1984 and flourishing...though needing to 'triumph' in a number of similar areas. Was encouraged by your post and will be a frequent visitor to your blog.

  31. I love your word! My word is ACHIEVE. I BELIEVE I can achieve anything if i put my mind to it. I've spent the last year working on myself...have lost almost 50 lbs (still have a ton more to go) working on being a better mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, etc. I figured achieve is what I needed. I love what you have made. I'm almost done with my 12x24 canvas and will be posting it on my blog hopefully by the end of the week. Take care!

  35. Amy, what an inspiration you are. I love your canvas art and your theme speaks to all of us. I msut confess 2007 wasn't a very good year for me and it has sometimes beaten me down but with a New Year comes New Hope so I am going to follow your example and find the word that is going to get me through some major challenges this year. This is just the project I need to get me going. Thank you so much for sharing your art and your heart with us all. I'm sure this is going to be your year!
