Very Special Christmas Ornaments

I wanted to give both my hubby and his sister a Christmas ornament to put on the tree that honored the life of their mother this season, but there really wasn't anything out there in retail-ville that was appropriate. Instead, I made each of them an ornament to remind them of Mom. Here they are, and how they look hanging on my Christmas tree this afternoon. The hubby really liked his and got all misty eyed. I don't know what my SIL will think because she puts her tree up like the day before Christmas if she puts it up at all:)! I hope she likes it. I'm sure she will, although I'm not sure she fully values handmade art and doesn't get too excited about stuff like that.

This one is my SIL's.....

And this one is for my hubby.....

I got out shopping a little today and in the middle of the day had a chance to lunch with my girlfriend Robyn!! Hi Robyn! Thanks for lunch today, it was wonderful sharing the time with you--come over sometime soon to make krumkaka with me, ok?!

I went to a scrapbook store that I've never been to before and got an Elzybelle stamp! And, I also got some Ranger crackle paint, woo-hoo, I can't wait to paint some chipboard! I also stopped at Sam's Club and bought my meat for the holidays. I've decided to do two different things....on Christmas Eve, we are having my FIL for dinner after church and for that I'll serve roast beef and Yorkshire pudding! Then, on Christmas Day when my family comes over, I'm going to do shredded pork sandwiches. On my poll, the winning meal was Appetizers, then Turkey and all the Fixin's, and then, FINALLY, the shredded pork sandwiches that I wanted. I'm a rebel, aren't I?

Well, I'm going to go run upstairs for a little bit, see if Eldes Son wants to watch Elf with me.

Hugs,!

  2. these are wonderful ornaments, and i hope there's a date on the back of the year that she passed. although you think you'll never forget, you may, and you'll want that date there.

i'm going to make my son his ornament this year, since he's at a new school and his ornament is something that commemorates the major event of that particular year. nothing in retail can touch that!

  3. Oh, Amy, what a magnificently heartfelt gift. This one totally tugs at my heartstrings. I have a picture of my Grandpa that's been on my fridge since he died almost 2years ago. I think I'll make a copy of it and turn it into an ornament for my Dad. I know he'd love it. Hooray for lunch with friends and Elzybells! They're so cute. And Elf is my favorite Christma movie, so you can come over here and watch it any old time! ;)

I'm all with the shredded pork sandwiches -- glad you're doing them! And jumping ahead of the game, getting to Sam's today and all :) I love the handmade Christmas ornaments. . .what a great idea. I'm doing a mini-tree for my mom this year with framed pictures of all 9 of her grandchildren. Wish I'd thought of this!
