It's a Material Thing

This morning, I decided to participate in the SCS Ways to Use It Challege, which required us to use fabric on our cards. I have NEVER done this before, so I was ready for some fun! I haven't cracked open my sewing maching in quite some time, and wasn't about to open it this morning. So, I rounded up some fun fabric I had laying around, got my handy dandy stitch stamp out and got busy!

The fabric I chose inspired me so much! These colors energize me like no other colors can! I could stare at this all day long, and not because I think it's "beautiful", but because it brings me such joy to see these three colors together. Call me wierd, I know. But color affects me this way. Color makes me happy.

Anyways, since I didn't have my sewing machine on hand, I glued down a piece of fabric 4x5.25 inches in size on the cardstock. Before I laid it down, I fringed the edges just a touch to get the stray threads in control. It's glue down with just Mono glue. I took my stitch zig zag stamp and stamped around the edges of the fabric with Old Olive ink.

For the image, here's what I did. On a piece of watercolor paper, I stamped the flower image first in Staz On Timber Brown, and then in Versamark. Then I embossed the image with clear embossing powder. When that was done, I watercolored just the flower, with my aqua painter, in Passion Pink, Old Olive, and Pumpkin Pie. I let that dry. Then, I liberally sprayed the whole piece with water, and with my aqua painter, started painting the background of the flower with Pumpkin Pie and Passion Pink. I made sure it was very random, and very messy, to match the tie-dyed fabric I chose for the card. The flower center is a fabric polka dot brad that I've had laying around for forever! I matted the flower image with Old Olive cardstock, and mounted it to the front of the card, on top of the fabric, with foam tape. The sentiment is stamped on Whisper White cardstock, and then I cut around it with my tiny scallop scissors. It's mounted to the front as well with foam tape. I think the green polka dot organza ribbon puts this card over the top with color!!!

I am so glad I decided to participate in the Ways to Use It challenge on SCS! Have a great day!

p.s. I think Antonella and Haley will probably go on Idol tonight, although for some reason, I really like Haley. But the judges have their minds set on Melinda and LaKisha, so anyone else is terrible in comparison! I really think the finale will be Melinda and LaKisha. After last night, that's where my thoughts are headed. The guys? They were terrible, and not many of them should advance! I think Jared will go, and of course, Sanjya. Please.

  5. My hubby's cousin had these colours in her wedding a few years back & I love them! The bridesmaids were in brght orange dresses and then they had bright pink, orange and lime green or yellow gerbera daisies! I too could look at this card all day :)
Can't believe I didn't watch the guys/girls this week on American Idol - completely forgot but thanks to you, I ran & taped tonight, so I'll be back in the loop:)

  6. I was just at Michael's... I saw this stamp on the shelf and thought, "Hey, I saw that stamp on Amy's gorgeous card today, I better buy it!". So, the darn thing jumped right into my basket. LOL It looks so cool with the fabric background.
