A bold, fun card

I honestly can't remember if I've ever shared today's card with you guys, but I really don't think I have. I'm pretty sure I cased it too, but I made it such a long time ago (a month ago) that I really don't remember! So, if you're stopping by my blog today and this card looks hauntingly familiar to you, please let me know so I can give credit where credit is due!

Isn't it scrumptious? The colors; the bold black, white and bright springy colors! Yummy. Best of all, you can use up some scraps for it. No cutting into a new piece of paper for this one!

The bow in the left hand corner is actually covering up a boo-boo I had with black ink. I swear, the minute I take out a piece of white cardstock for a base, some sort of ink monster sneaks up behind me and bumps my hand or elbow on purpose to wreck the white cardstock. Does that happen to any of you? It happens every time, I tell you!

So, all is well in my life. I am busy working, planning the wedding shower, and continuing with planning the graduation open house we'll be having for our son on June 7th. He graduates on June 5th, which, by the way, I can hardly believe. The days are winding down and it's surreal. My how the time flew by. It seems like just a few years ago I was walking him into the kindergarten room for the first time. Now he's poised for a new chapter in his life, one that doesn't include us so much {sniff, sniff}. I know he'll still need us (mostly for paying his tuition!), but it will be less and less as time goes by. And that makes me both excited and sad all at the same time. Excited to see him build a new life for himself, yet sad to watch those apron strings snap, one by one. I've created a video photo montage to commemorate his life, complete with touching music, but it's a tear jerker. I'll have it playing at his open house. When I just started creating it, I had my hubby watch it, and he started blubbering THEN. At that point, it didn't even have music attached to it yet! The songs I am using in it are Let Them Be Little by Billy Dean, My Wish by Rascal Flatts, Whenever You Remember by Carrie Underwood, Find Your Wings by Mark Harris, and The Time of My Life by David Cook. I still need a few other really good songs, so if you know any, please leave me a comment. This project has been wonderfully cathartic and I can't wait for Eric to see it for the first time!

Hugs,

Amy

  2. That is a beautiful card. I love the colors you chose. I don't have the same problem with white cardstock, I have it with every color cardstock :)
Thanks for sharing those songs. They are lovely. I had to listen to a couple that I didn't recognize. I am sure your son is going to love it.
Thanks for the reminder too. My oldest son will be starting kindergarten this fall and I am absolutely terrified. I see him growing up before my eyes and I have to conitnually ask myself where my baby has gone :)
    TFS!!!

  3. I WAS gonna say "Cat's In the Cradle" by Cat Stevens...but that might be a bit...um...grim...or not. All depends. Hmmm.

Liz is putting Mary's together, too -- and Mary desinged the postcard and the evite, too!

    See ya soon!

  4. Beautiful card! Thanks for sharing your heartfelt thoughts about your son graduating- my daughter is also and you & I are on the same bittersweet page :) Even our choice of music is similar - I'm also using "I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack & "How You Live" by Point of Grace...maybe those are more 'girly' songs :) God Bless you this mom's day and in the busy days to come :) <><

  5. I usually don't comment on blogs because I always feel a little strange writing to a complete stranger. But....I had to write today because I love what you are doing by creating a picture montage for your son. What a gift! I used to do something similar when I taught kindergarten. The parents and kids loved watching it and I really enjoyed putting it together.

I love the song "Find your Wings" by Mark Harris and think you would find it fitting. It is played on Christian radio quite a bit, especially around graduation time.
If you haven't heard it---it is on youtube.

    Enjoy!

  9. Love your bright happy card!! I can feel your pain and my kids are only 14 and 12. My 12 year old is moving on to Jr. High next year, and I already get a lump in my throat thinking about it! What a great idea for your son!

Your card is beautiful Amy, and if I think of any songs I'll let you know. Sounds like you'll have to stock up on the tissue before the big day ;)
