Update on Ken

We could really use your prayers....my BIL Ken was admitted into the hospital last night after difficulty breathing. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with plural effusion (water on the lungs) and pericardial effusion (fluid around the heart).

Remember, Ken was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer back in March. This morning they did a procedure to drain the fluid, and pulled quite a bit of fluid from the lungs and heart. I think they pulled 1500 cc's from the lungs and 1200 cc's from the heart. They decided to put in a permanent drain to make sure the fluid doesn't build up again. According to Jayne, the drs are mildly optimistic that perhaps the cancer has not spread to the plural lining, but the cells from the fluid will still have to be tested to make sure. Jayne was really pleased with the dr. that performed the procedure, as he was very articulate about what was happening.

It is so hard being so far away while my SIL and her boys are having to deal with this in VA. I am so thankful we went to see them over Christmas, I just wish we could be there with them right now. They have many friends to support them in Fairfax, but no family there, as we are all here. So all we can do here is pray. That's why I'm reaching out to you, my readers, to ask that you lift Ken up in prayer as well.

The photo above is Ken with my two boys, and the photo below is of Jayne, Ken and their boys, Andrew and Matthew.

Jesus looked at them intently and said, "humanly speaking, it is impossiblel But with God, everything is possible." - Matthew 19:26

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor foresake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged. -Deuteronomy 31:8

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect me and comfort me. -Psalm 23:4

Hugs,
Amy

  9. I am very sorry to hear this. As you may know, I'm about 2 miles from Fairfax hospital (if that is where your BIL) is and I will be thinking of you and of him. A friend of my friend (!) has had cancer and it did spread to the lining of her lungs. She had a similar procedure and also had her lungs packed with talc (I know that seems odd). She is doing amazingly well since they found that her cancer had spread. It has been at least 6 months and she is home and going out and living her life and I hope this happens with your BIL.

Oh, sometimes life is so unfair and so hard. Many hugs!!
