Let's Grill!

I made this card almost a year ago for a submission, but somehow, it never got sent out! I ran across it the other day and thought it'd be a good card to post now that it's BBQ season....mmmm-mmmmm good!

My hubby is a major grill meister...not to mention grill connoisseur. I kid you not, the guy goes through a grill once a year practically. Every time we go out to a store that sells grills I have to hold him back with a ball and chain attached to my waist! The guy is crazy about BBQ! I love it too, although it's typically him that does the down and dirty grillin, I just come up with the recipes. Want to know what one of our favorite things to make on the grill is? Grilled pizza! Yowza, we love it! Our specialty pizza is Alfredo/grilled chicken/green onion/cheese (the pizza in the picture looks like it was Olive Oil, spinach, tomates, sauted mushrooms, green onions, mozzarella and parmesean)!!! It is TDF (to die for). I make my pizza dough in my bread maker, then roll it out real thin. We brush olive oil on one side and then flip that side onto the grill. You grill it on low until you see the top of the crust start to bubble and you see grill marks on the bottom of the pizza. Before you flip it, you brush the top with olive oil as well and then flip it. It only takes a few minutes to cook and it's crispy yummy! Then we spread on our toppings and heat it on low until the cheese starts to melt. Sometimes the cheese has a hard time melting on the grill, and because we don't want to risk burning the crust, we bring it in to finish it off in the kitchen oven.

Another one of our grillin' specialties is grilled bananas. Yep, grilled bananas. First, slice a banana lengthwise with the SKIN ON. Then brush lemon juice on the banana. Sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and brown sugar and place on low grill. Grill for a few minutes, then turn over and grill for a few more minutes. When they're done, I take the peels off, mash all the bananas in a bowl, and then pour it over vanilla ice cream! Sprinkle a little of the leftover brown sugar mixture over the ice cream as well, and you'll have an amazing dessert your guests won't soon forget! I found the recipe on-line, so if anyone is interested, please let me know and I'll post the "REAL" recipe, k? Sorry I don't have any pictures of the grilled bananas...maybe I'll have to make some just to show you what I'm talking about!

What sorts of special, uncommon things do you make on your grill? Are you famous among your friends for your grillin' expertise? Please leave me a comment if you've got something fun to share, ok? I would LOVE to hear all the delicious things you gals grill up every weekend!

Well, I have to run now, there's lots to be accomplished today! I can't wait to hear about some of your grill specialties!

  1. Cute card, Amy! I'm sure it would have been picked up : )

I was reading about the bananas and looked at the last photo and thought "How'd they get that banana so flat?!" (must have skipped down a little in my reading...) Clearly, I need a cup of coffee!!!

Looks sooo yummy -- have a great day!

  3. Oh, honey! My husband is competition for your husband when it comes to grilling! His sister gave him, I kid you not, a 3-4 inch thick grilling book for Christmas 2 years ago, and he's been the "gill man" ever since. I got him a really nice, big grill for Father's Day last year and he has loved it! He does the most amazing baby back ribs, green chili chicken "under brick" and "beer can" chicken! He's a crazy man, I tell ya. :) It's so much fun too because when he grills, I stay out of the kitchen now. Unless he asks for my help, he shoes me out to go stamp, and he does all of the prep. We do shop for all of the spices and ingredients together, so it's been a real bonding time for us too. Fun!

    Thanks for asking!

  4. wow does that pizza look good! I'll bet the best benefit of having a grill-master hubby is that he does the cooking. I'd love that!

  6. we had sad pizza from my oven last night (store bought crust), so my mouth is watering reading about your version!

we don't do a lot of fancy stuff on the grill, but we do love salmon done that way. the ease and lack of clean up for me is what sells me on grilling every time.

btw, don't let doug read this, but investing in an expensive grill is probably a better idea than buying a new one every year. we went that route for awhile, and when we moved bob went big (with me left holding the ball and chain!). the quality is so much better and the durability is really worth it. i know it's not in your cards right now, but something to think about...i'd like the bananas recipe!

  7. Love the card...and the yummy recipes. I wish we could grill today, but there's far too much rain for that. I keep it pretty simple when I grill...just grilled chicken and burgers...that's all my kids will eat. I'm hoping to convince my DH that we need to use some of our tax return $$ for a new grill...our current one is too small and needs cleaning almost every time we use it. Thanks for sharing the great card and recipes!

  9. OOooooo your pizza looks so yummy Amy!! We love to grill too! I would love your grilled bananas recipe that sounds great! One of my favorite things to grill is veggies. I cut up zucchini and yellow squash and mushrooms and marinade them either in Italian dressing or another marinade I have and then we grill them (I cut them kind of think about 1/4" to 1/2" to keep them crunchy though). Another good one is to cut up potatoes like french fries (the big kind) and pour melted butter with some Tony Chachere's spices in it. Grill the "french fries" and we like them "burnt" as we call it. There not really burnt but they do have grill marks :)
Sorry about the long comment, but I love to grill to - great card too!!

  13. I'm the grill master in my house. I won't let my husband touch the grill except to turn it on. (he makes hockey pucks on the grill!!) We love grilled pizzas. Kids ask for them weekly. We make ours individually right out on our front porch for the whole neighborhood to see! Just looking at your pictures are making me hungry and our grill is shot but no $$ to replace it :(
