Great Grads

I managed to get a few grad cards made this weekend, thanks to inspiration from Shannan! I saw this card she made for Verve and was inspired to make one for myself!

Here is the card I made based on her card. Of course, I had to change it up a bit so it wasn't a DIRECT case, but her influence is certainly in my card. I had made so many girly grad cards this weekend that I needed to make some for guys. So I dug around in my scrap drawer and came up with a scrap piece of paper that resembled a "guy" and got busy. The card base is a dual sided white/gray cardstock I get at my local scrapbook store. I love this stuff because it means I don't have to put paper inside for someone to write on! I buy it in red, black, blue and brown. Gray is a new color. SU!'s Basic Grey ink matches it perfectly.

The stars are from a set from Verve Visual called Seeing Stars. I stamped the image with Versamark and then embossed them with gold embossing powder. I had-cut them out and mounted them to the card with dimensional tape. I stamped the sentiment (also from Verve Visual, from the newest set called Great Expectations) in the lower right corner, but I probably should have stamped it with white instead of black. It's a little hard to see in this picture, but I assure you, it's not so hard to see looking at the real thing!

The second card I made is for a girl grad. It was really simple. The grad cap is actually a template I made myself last year, it's two pieces. I fringe a piece of silver cording to serve as the "tassle" for the cap. It's attached to the cap using a silver brad. The sentiment is from Verve Visual's Great Expection set. I just love the versatility of this set!

I hope seeing these cards today inspires you to make some grad cards too this week!

It is a beautiful morning so far. Doug and I took a 2 mile walk with the dog already. I have a business lunch at noon, and then I need to come home and start packing for my trip to Wash, DC Wednesday.

Does anyone have an idea for a care package to bring my brother-in-law? He has his second chemo treatment on Thursday and I wanted to bring him something that lets him know we love him very much. If you've got some ideas, leave me a comment, k?

Hugs,
Amy

  1. Amy, I used to work for an oncologist, and the drug reps used to bring us lemon drops all the time for the patients. They help a lot with the dry mouth. I don't know what brand they were but the ones we always got had a juice-like center to them. Your BIL's doctor may already provide something like that, but perhaps his own bag of them at home for a care package?

    Have a wonderful, blessed trip!

  4. The lemon drops is a great idea. I was thinking about DVDs. You could find out from his wife what he wants to see and stick that in with the candy. Also, since he may be very tired you could stick in a puzzle book. I personally like the Fill-It-Ins because you don't have to think as hard as the crossword puzzles. I do them when I am watching tv since I like to do something, but nothing that requires a lot of brain power. LOL Hope these suggestions help.

  5. Hi! It's my first time posting, & I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog! Thanks for sharing your time & talent with us.

I was saddened to hear about your brother-in-law, as my dad was diagnosed a few months ago with lung cancer, as well. He just finished his chemo & radiation. I made him a chemo goody bag, which contained sugar-free candies, magazines, a journal I made him, some bandanas (for when his hair fell out) & a bible. I loved how the journal came out. I divided it into sections, one with spiritual & inspiration quotes & sayings, one with family photos & one humor section. I found cool quotes & stuff online that I used. I also had a front pocket in which I included some neat prayers that he could pull out. He really loved it & appreciated the time that went into it. OF course, it was therapeutic for me to do it.
