Blessings of the Season

Happy Sunday!

Today is a busy day around here. We're having hubby's dad over for an early Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, stuffing (apple and sausage...yummy!), homemade rolls, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and homemade apple pie! I made the pie last night. Crust was made from scratch. I have a love/hate relationship with apple pie. I love the taste, but have such trouble with crusts. My SIL makes the most wonderful apple pie, so I am on a quest to make a great one too! I'll give you an update on how everything goes when I post tomorrow.

Youngest Son has been nursing a slight cough for the past few days, and this morning he woke up with a humdinger of a cold. He spent Friday night away on a youth retreat, and of course, the kids were up till all hours of the night. That didn't have any bearing on the nasty cold taking residence in his body, could it? Yea, right. I'm afraid his day will consist of lots of couch time combined with lots of fluids. The last thing we need around here is a cold running through the ranks.

I didn't get any stamping done yesterday, which is a bummer. I kind of doubt anything will get done today either since the house has to be cleaned a little before hubby's dad comes over. Maybe tonight I'll get in the studio to stamp....

Here is a card I made last weekend using some gold sheeting (I'm not sure of the technical name for this stuff). I put it through my Cuttlebug and made it into a Christmas ornament. Do you like how I tied in the sentiment (May the blessings of the season SHINE upon you) in to the shiny ornament?

I'm also sharing a few photos I took the other night of Eldest Son's indoor marching band concert. At the end of every marching band season, they put on a concert indoors to play all their marching band songs for that season. Remember, we live in MN, there is no such thing as "year-round marching band"! It is so much fun to listen to this 300+ band play in the confines of the gym....talk about LOUD!!!!! The PomPom girls dance along and everybody has so much fun. This year, however, the kids had to wear their summer band outfit (black pants and red band t-shirt) because their wool uniforms were getting cleaned for the big band trip the leave for on Monday. The band is heading to Philadelphia to march in the oldest Thanksgiving Day parade in the country! Unfortunately, Eldest Son isn't going due to our current financial situation, but he'll be with them in spirit instead!

Have a great day!

Love the card. The embossed circle is, as the kids used to say--Way Cool.

  2. Your ornament card is awesome. Wow, the band must have sounded fabulous inside the gym. I'm sorry to hear your son is missing the parade. It's one of those "life lessons" experience. I think all young people somewhere in their youth need to go through something like this. These are decisions they will have to make with their own families someday and they'll need some experience to draw strength from. Have fun with your turkey, pie and family today.

  3. Aw, I live right over the bridge from Philly and we do the parade! Bummer he can't go...but, what can you do? I'm sure he'll really appreciate when he does get to go. Love the Christmas ball card. So pretty.

  5. Amy.... can you get Crisco shortening in the US? (I'm in Canada). I always use the recipe on the back of the box of Crisco.... have never had a bad crust. Flaky and wonderful everytime!
