Winter Wonder

This is a card I created yesterday to show off the new Verve Visual stamps Julee released on Wednesday. I really, really, really do love the set I used for today's card, Winter Wonder. I know I'm on the design team, so I'm SUPPOSED to say they're fabulous, but I am 100% serious when I say I would love these dainty snowflakes regardless if I was on the team!

There are two different snowflake designs in the set, but each design comes in 3 different sizes! The set also includes 7 different sentiments, as well as three different sized stars.

I love the effect of watercoloring, so I thought I'd experiment to see if I could create a watercolor snowflake scene for my card. I first spritzed a piece of watercolor paper with my water mister. Then I stamped the largest snowflake first, in Cranberry Crisp. Then I did the same with with the medium sized snowflake (stamped in Old Olive), and once more using a tiny snowflake (stamped in Brown). I decided to stamp the snowflakes again once the watercolor paper had dried, so you could see the intricate pattern of each snowflake. I rubbed Ranger Distress Ink over the whole snowflake image and mounted it on Cranberry Crisp cardstock.

The designer paper I used is from Webster's Pages, which is a new line of papers designed for Webster's Pages by Terri Conrad (Verve Visual now has stocked, ready for you to buy, the Winter Wonderland line, the Coco line, and the Classical Garden line! I've been waiting for weeks for her to get it in stock...I placed an order yesterday in the Verve store and cannot wait to get my hands on it!) I actually took the colors for my main snowflake image from the Winter Wonderland line. The patterns I used are Mistletoe Kisses and Candy Cane.

Look closely at the Mistletoe Kisses paper I used as the main paper on the card (background). Do you see the wispy botanical images on the paper? I wanted to carry that look through to other areas on the card, so I fringed the edges of the Very Vanilla cardstock that I matted the other Webster's Pages paper (Candy Cane) with. See how the fringed edges match the wispiness of the Mistletoe paper? I really love how it looks!

The sentiment was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and punched out using the 1 3/8 inch circle punch. It was then layered on a scallop circle punched out of Basic Brown cardstock. I took my paper piercing tool and punched a hole in each scallop for a little extra detail.

It was so exciting to be able to work with Webster's Pages paper again. I had scored a bunch from Summer CHA when I was there, but that had long since been used up. It's been difficult finding it on line, but now that Julee has it over at Verve Visual, I'm happy. I hope Julee ships it out quickly! Big hugs going out to my cyber friend, Terri Conrad, for designing such uber fabulous paper! I hope she likes what I created using her Winter Wonderland line!

Well, it's time to wrap it up for today. It will be a pretty quiet day around here except for one meeting at the high school (to meet with my son's dean to go over his most recent midterm grades), and then we'll head to the last home football game tonight. I'm not 100% certain I'll go, as it's been really cold here this week. This morning it was only 40, so chances of it being 70 and sultry by kickoff are slim to none! Bummer. I'm sure I'll go, at least through halftime so I can see the marching band's halftime performance. But hangin' around much longer than that is probably not going to happen!

Hugs,
Amy
