Where was everyone yesterday? I think you were all taking a long 3 day weekend and blew off your bloggin! I only got three responders to my poll and only a few comments for the day. I miss you when you don't come visit me!!! Hello....is anyone out there?????????????
Yesterday was a rough day. To make a long story short, Muriel is having another surery today to remove a chest tube that the doctor accidentally stitched in during Monday's surgery. Considering we've had a relatively "good" news week with Muriel, yesterdays news was a shock we did NOT anticipate we'd ever hear. It's vital we have the surgery done today in order to attempt to get Muriel off the vent sometime over the weekend. Apparently, there is a limit to how long you can have a vent in without causing major damage and she has reached that limit. If they can't get her weened off the vent, they will have to give her a trache. We do not want that.
Ok, moving on to happier things.....did you see who the Friday Featured Artist was on Colleen's blog, Distictive Touches was yesterday? That artist would be ME!!!!! Yikes-a-rooni!! I about hit the ceiling when I saw Colleen's email on Wednesday night asking me if I'd consider it. Ahhh, duh....of course I would!!! Colleen did an amazing job of making me sound like I was actually a really interesting person:)! Colleen is an editor by trade, so she does a fabulous job writing stories, and this was no different. I am so honored she thought of me--she's such a great girl! She cheers me up when I'm bummin' and makes me laugh alot cuz she's a little spitfire! Be sure and take some time to visit Colleen's blog and read her article about me, ok?
Here's my card for the day. I needed some sympathy cards for my personal stash, so here's one I whipped together using my new set Beautiful Life. Sympathy cards aren't as hard for me to make as they are for some people. They seem to come together pretty easily for me. I tend to make them very simple layouts, not alot of fluffy stuff--totally unecessary IMHO on an sympathy card. The flower and stem is from the Beautiful Life set, and the sentiment is from Close as a Memory. The paper is WR Memory Keepers, their Comstock Collection (I used Marigold and Buttercup on yesterdays card), this pattern is called Sage. The scallop mat on both sides of the main image is cut using decorative scissors.
Well, that's about it for this morning! My hubby's been out of town since Thursday. He was due back at 1p today, but received an email from Northwest last night saying they were cancelling his flight (they had already cancelled his first flight...this was a reschedule of the original). We were supposed to get together with a bunch of friends for boating and dinner at 2p this afternoon, but that's not going to happen. Now he's taking the train from Philly to New Jersey and taking a flight out from there, which is due to arrive today at 530p, given they don't cancel that as well. Northwest is headquartered out of Minneapolis, so most of us refer to them as NorthWORST cuz they've screwed our state so many times with this bankruptcy stuff over the years. These cancellations are at an all time high EVERYWHERE because pilots are calling in "sick". I personally think they are just sticking it to Northwest for all the crap they've taken away from the pilots and flight attendants. I can sympathize, I really can, but this is getting ridiculous. If you can, don't book with NW this summer....this is only going to get worse. You might be better off flying a different airline for a while....Keep your fingers crossed Doug gets home today. On a separate front, my oldest son and a few friends are going to their FIRST rock concert tonight.....ZZ Top, Gin Blossoms, Stray Cats and the Pretenders!!! He's so excited! I got tickets from my radio rep...so the kids will sit on the floor, 22 rows back!!!! Woo-hoo!
Hugs,
Amy

What a beautiful card. I struggle with sympathy cards but I'm not sure why. It's means to convey your love, concern and a little tenderness...your card does that beautifully! I hope your husband makes it home successfully. I was at the gate next to a NW flight at O Hare a week ago and those poor people were on their second meal voucher waiting for their plane--Yikes!
ReplyDeleteTell your hubby I feel for him. They're the ones who got me on the way to Chicago! And made me sleepy and grumpy. Not a good combo!

It has been a crazy week Amy - I haven't checked in as regularly but I still love ya! :) Prayers for Muriel - let us know! Beautiful card too! :)
ReplyDeleteHello, hello, hello! I'm here! Wow what a SCARY situation for Muriel. Sorry to hear about your husband...I am not a fly-er (only when I have to) *lol*
ReplyDeleteA very elegant card too.
Lovely sympathy card Amy! Very soothing and pretty. Can you e-mail me your snail mail address? I'm trying to compile a list of the bloggers I regularly visit.....thanks! have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, I don't really struggle with sympathy cards - I try to keep them simple and often use trees - they seem serene. And, wow, what a great, glowing article by Colleen, and every word is true. I'm always anxious to see what your creative mind has cooked up!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy - you are an amazing artist and you should be celebrated!
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well with Muriel, this is a scary time for all of you.
Isn't it amazing that some of the bands your kids are going to see have been around forever! They will have a blast.
Have a great weekend and know that there are lots of people out here in cyber world that love the insight you give with your artwork, your photography and your words.
Cheers, Rhonda
Amy, I know what you mean about "missing bloggers" it seems like the past few days my visitors and comments are really low...I am going to attribute it to the great weather and lots of family vacations...
ReplyDeleteThanks for saying such sweet things about me...YOU are a blast to write about as you really ARE a very interesting person...
I am so sorry to hear about Muriel...what a nightmare this has been for you and your family. I will be praying for a positive outcome for you all.
Your sympathy card is GORGEOUS! I think I need to take your cue and think "no fuss...no frill" for my next one.
Sorry to hear about your hubby...we know just what you are dealing with. Nate travels a lot for work and he used to fly NorthWORST too...(that is what we call it also). Hope he gets home today safe and sound.
hugs.
What a lovely sympathy card, Amy! I too find them easy to make except for the sentiment. The one you chose is lovely.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for Muriel's recovery, and strength to all her family.
I can't vote, as I don't have a Bind-it-All. I bought one for my daughter, but I don't think she has used it much. I subscribe to your blog and read it with joy, but seldom comment. That doesn't mean I don't love it, though! I just recommended it to a friend, who is looking to use more patterned paper in her cards.
amy--i know what you mean about people visiting but not commenting! i think there are readers lurking at my blog who just don't say anything, but i'd love to know they stopped by!
ReplyDeletei visited yesterday, but i don't own a bind-it-all, so i didn't leave a comment. thanks for the update on muriel..what a strange thing, to find out something has been left behind accidentally! have a good weekend somehow...more time before hubby gets home means more time to stamp!
Your sympathy card is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSorry your hubby has been delayed again - how frustrating!
I tried to comment *yes* on your poll (3 times) but it said it could not process - perhaps that's the probem why you don't have responses.
Your card is very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think lot of bloggers are "getting dirty" over at SCS. My noticed my numbers are way down as far as visits go.
Oh, great. I'm flying NW on Wednesday to Minneapolis. Thanks for the warning! Hey, I didn't vote on the poll b/c you didn't have an option for "don't have one", LOL! I'd love to get one, though. I personally think I'd use it quite a bit, not only for gifts but myself. I love notebooks, booklets, putting things on rings. So just think about what you would actually use it for. I continue to keep Muriel in my prayers. Congrats on being featured artist; I'll head over there now...And your card is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card. And don't sell yourself short - yes, you are an interesting person and deserve to be celebrated.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the setback with Muriel. Hope all goes well.
My DH is a frequent flyer - often has flights cancelled, missed connections, etc. Usually another airline will honor a ticket from a cancelled flight if they have an available seat, but it sure can be agravating to juggle your flight plans unexpectedly.
Sorry to hear about Muriel. I have been thinking about you and her...Your card is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSuch an elegant card, Amy. So sorry to hear about Muriel. Sounds like a very fun concert - I didn't even know ZZ Top was still performing! LOL! When I read Colleen's post about you on Friday, I thought to myself - I'm such a boring person! Look at all the exciting and cool stuff Amy's done! Loved reading a little more about you.
ReplyDeleteI am here! haha...glad you are back.
