Over The River And Through The Woods...

to my SIL's house we go!!!

That's right. It's time to let you in on a little secret. My hubby, my two sons, my FIL and I are days away from hopping into a rented van and driving half-way across the country to visit my SIL in Virginia for Christmas. Yikes!

Call us crazy if you want. I'd tend to agree with you if you did, lol. But, all of us felt the time was right to head out there and spend the holidays with Ken, Jayne and the boys. And since we don't have alot of money, we knew we couldn't afford airline tickets for everyone. My FIL works part time for a rental car company, so he was able to get a good deal on a van that we could drive instead of trying to stuff our Tahoe to the brim with 5 large people. Oh yeah, did I fail to mention the fact that we're bringing our 6 pound toy poodle as well? Whoops. It's true. We're bringing the dang dog. Now you're going to think I'm even crazier than crazy, aren't you?

We plan on leaving Minneapolis on Sunday, driving to Toledo, OH and and then sleeping in a hotel for the night. We'll get up bright and early Monday morning and finish the trek to Fairfax, VA, hopefully arriving Monday evening. The plan is for the 5 (6) of us to stay in the home of one of my SIL's friends. Apparently they winter somewhere warm, and their house was going to be empty. How fabulous is that? If the 5 (6) of us had attempted to stay at my SIL's house, I think we would have killed each other in the first 5 minutes. Just kidding. Mostly. Actually, there is a real sliver of truth to that statement, lol.

So, you can imagine how crazy it is around here trying to wash clothes, shop for a few gifts, work at the clinic, work on my freelance stuff, etc, etc, etc. Not to mention my house is a disaster and I have to have it clean by Saturday when my FIL comes to stay the night before we leave. I'm getting hives just thinking about it. It will all get done, right? Just don't stop by if you're in the neighborhood. It wouldn't be a pretty site for you, trust me!

I think, given the facts I've outline above, that today will be my last post for a while. I do plan on bringing my laptop with me, so I might check in from time to time while we're gone. If any of you know any good stamp stores in Toledo that I could sneak into while we're there for a wink of an eye, please leave me a comment. I do know a few stamp places near Fairfax that I can head to if we have the time. While we're in DC, I am hoping to catch a glimpse of the National Christmas tree! Have any of you seen it? Is it worth driving into the District to see?

Before I sign off, I wanted to give you a quick update on the job situation for Doug. He still hasn't heard anything regarding the job out of town. He's been playing phone tag with the consultant helping the station with the hire. This guy is a walking PR firm for Doug as he really likes Doug. Hopefully he can just convince the station of that:). As far as the stuff that's brewing here in Mpls....things are moving along well. Obviously, we want to stay here, no question about it. You just never know what God has planned though. I will be sure to let you know if anything happens while were away.

I hope each and every one of you has a blessed Christmas! Be safe. Have fun. Love deeply. Please pray for safe travels to and from Virginia!

Holiday hugs,
Amy

p.s. Storylady....the name of the song is actually Peace, Peace. It is written by Rick and Sylvia Powell. I did a search and found a place online that you can order it from. Just click on this link!

  9. Hubby & I drove from Toronto ON Canada to Bethel Maine in one day which was a 550 mile drive - it took us 11 hours and by the time we got there, we were both exhausted and this was driving in the summer when we did not have to worry about snow. I personally think you're crazy to drive over 1100 miles in 2 days especially in the winter time!
I hope that you have a safe uneventful trip and that you enjoy this special time of year with your SIL. Merry Christmas and I will be looking forward to reading your blog if you get a chance to post while you are away.
