This is an altered canvas I made for the choir auction this weekend. I haven't made too many altered canvases over the years, but I really do enjoy it when I get the chance. The size of the canvas is 8x10.
I was so excited to use the fabulous Basic Grey papers from their Urban Prairie collection. I love this collection!!!! Every single design in the collection is scrumptious! I started by cutting 2-inch strips of 5 or 6 different patterns and adhering them to the canvas using Mod Podge. After the strips were adhered I went over the papers again with another layer of MP. I let that dry and then found some old BG alphabet letter stickers in my stash and used them to spell out the Philipians 4:4 verse that reads: "Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice". I adore this scripture and love the song even more.
Once I got the words spelled out, I applied another layer of Mod Podge. The flower is is one I had in my stash, no new packs of flowers were harmed in the making of this canvas:)! The stem of the flower is made using a few scraps of ric rack (?) I had laying around. The leaves on the flower stem are another pattern from Urban Prairie collection. I cut them out freehand and sewed a straight stitch around the leaf with my Janome Sew Mini. The pompom fringe at the bottom is actually vintage, from a box of stuff I purchased at a flea market a few summers ago. Around the edge of the canvas, I glued multi colored buttons all the way around for a punch of fun!
For the hanger, I initially used some black tulle, but that pretty overpowering. Instead, I bought some 18g wire and strung a few complimentary colored beads on it and then twisted it all up. I like this look much better!
I really love how this project turned out! I am hope someone bids on it:)! I know it won't raise lots of money, but something is better than nothing, right?
Make sure you come back tomorrow because I will show you the other item I made for the auction....my Greetings For Girlfriends Purse!
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Amy
I really LOVE this! Of everything I've tried, this is not one of them. But I love this! Maybe I can do something like this for my girls' rooms one day.
