For My Son

--To the world, you are just one person......but to one person, you are the world...

Love, Mom

This is a canvas I just made for Eldest Son. I've had a plan to make one of these for him for over a year, but after the breakup this week, I decided to get it done, pronto, to help cheer him up.

I started with a 12x12 canvas.

I modge podged two different patterned paper onto canvas.

I painted the sides (not caring if the paint got on the front of the canvas) using brown acrylic paint.

I matted and adhered one 5x7 photo, and three small photos onto canvas using tape runner.

I laid a 12x12 printed overlay on top of photos. It was adhered to the canvas using glue dots in all four corners.

On top of the overlay, I adhered bronze metal letters to spell "Eric", and "08". FYI....the letters are from We Are Memory Keepers. I found them at my local Marshall's (just like TJ Maxx/Homegoods) store last weekend!!! For only $4.99!!! Yowza!!! Jackpot!

Finally, I adhered four chipboard corners to each of the four corners of the canvas to hide the glue dots holding the overlay on.

As you can see, I made a card for him to go with it, using the same paper. The stamps I used are from Verve; from the Father Figure set and Here for You. I wanted it to be very masculine, of course, and I think I achieved what I set out to do.

Eric loved his canvas and told me it meant more to him than I could ever know. Awwwww.....shucks.

I'm making this a quick post today because we are off for a college visit. We are headed to the University of Wisconsin/River Falls to have a look-see. It will be nice to get away for a few hours. The university is only about an hour from our house, which hubby thinks is a little too close!! He's pushing for our son to go a little further away. Spoken like a true Father. I'm thinking it's just about perfect.

Have a great day.

Hugs,
Amy

  2. Especially, during the first year, and hour away is perfect. My girls needed to come home the first year as they adjusted to college life and found their voice. Even in a good Christian college, they have a lot of peer pressure to deal with. Sometimes they just needed the sanctity of home.
I love the card and the canvas. That young man is truly blessed to have you as a mom.

I am just blown away that you have a son this old!!!!! I mean I thought you were like 25 maybe. I just can't believe it!
Oh. your page is super awesome by the way!
My son and his girlfriend of 18 months broke up and he was devastated (even though he ended it) they have since gotten back together and are stronger than ever. If they are meant to be together it will happen, if it doesn't it just means God has someone even better out there for him.
