SSS #4

Good morning everyone!

It's a beautiful morning here, the sun is shining in my eyes through the window. There's a nip in the air and the birds are singing gloriously! What's not to love?

I've got a fun, easy sketch for you to play with today if you've got the time. I don't know what keeps drawing me to the bright colors of the K & Co Berry Sweet Collection, but it sure is powerful. Once again, another bright card for you to look at today. There are many of you that shy away from these bright colors (or just plain hate them), and I am curious to know why.

It's interesting to me why some people {{{heart}}} working with bright colors and then others find them unappealing or difficult to work with. Are we born with an inate tendency toward certain colors? Or, is it a learned tendancy?

In a study conducted at the University of Georgia (Dept of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors), it was concluded that color-related emotion is highly related to personal preference and one's past experience that particular color. So, maybe color preference is both inate and learned? I don't know. But I do know that color evokes strong feelings in all of us, for very specific reasons. A while back, I deducted that I love bright colors so much because I'm an introvert. WHAT????? Yep. You read that right. I have decided that I like bright colors because they are bold, something I'm not. Today, while researching this subject a little bit, my deduction seems plausible. On this site, it talks about the psychological effects of certain colors on certain segments of the society. It said that some people may be drawn to colors that represent qualities they lack, for balance. THIS IS SO TRUE!!!!! Think about this. Is it true for any of you? I can't help but think about an email conversation I had this weekend with Susan Liles, one of my Verve teammates. She posted a FABULOUS bright card the other day but thought it was too bright! The one thing about Susan is that she seems like such an extrovert (the girl is SILLLLLLY).......do you think she wasn't so into the bright colors because she is already so outgoing and bold and needs more subdued colors to feel balance in her soul? What an interesting thought! I hope Susan reads this today and chimes in about whether she is an introvert or an extrovert, and what colors most appeal to her......SUSAN??????????

Well, I've got to go run and read the Sunday paper before church. Have a fabulous day. If you do this sketch and post it on SCS, use the code SSS4.

Hugs,
Amy

  1. WEll I love all colors! maybe I'm a little wacky. LOL Whenever someone asks what my favorite color is I cannot pick ONE. I love celery green and light blue and bright pink and orange - yes orange is wonderful. Hmmm pastels and brights? But that's not all because I love subtle earth tones and rich jewel tones too. What does that say about me?! I went to a school full of little cliques - and I had a friend in each group too. Very interesting topic you've started Amy.

And I wanted to share with you that I've been published! I am in the upcoming Take Ten issue. I have 2 full pages and then 2 of my cards appear on a seperate pages as well. One full page says I am in Grand Rapids, Minnesota though - but really I am in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Oh well - I am just thrilled to be published once again (it had been a long time and I was starting to get frustrated). I just wanted to share my good nnews with you because your blog (along with a couple others) always inspires me to create. So thanks Amy!!!

  2. I did have a friend tell me that you can tell if you are an intravert or an extravert by how you feel after a big party. Are you dying to go back, or did you have a great time and now want to rest? The first is the extravert. Maybe that is true?

  7. here i am amy!! i just love that you thought of me and my little card!! i'd say i am an extrovert, once i get to know you. i don't know if you've heard of the DISC personality studies, but i am definitely an "i", meaning it's all about fun for me and details don't matter as much as long as it's fun (i like to be the center of attention, but i don't consider myself selfcentered!)!!! so i think a lot of the qualities it describes is characteristic of an extrovert. whether or not choosing more subdued colors is a way that i subconciously balance that? good thought? i don't know! however, when i look down at my cardstock file, the bold brights are well loved! i must tone them down a bit with other colors. i was looking at my gallery the other day and DID noticed A LOT of red!!!! maybe that shows confidence, like men who wear a red tie to an interview? LOL!!! i need to pay closer attention and see if i notice a pattern according to my mood or whatever!! i like bright colors, but in fact i hardly wear them either, now that i think about it!!! hmmmmm...... thanks for the pondering, amy--you are a sweetheart!! love, sus

  12. Well, I am a fan of both brights and subdued colors! :D It all depends on what I am in the mood for. Today I must have been in the mood for bright, springy colors because I made two cards using a similar color combination and I didn't realize it until I went to take the pictures of them! Haha! Oh well. This was a fun sketch. I switched the sentiment location a little so I hope that's ok! Here is my card:
