Mom Update

My mom is leaving the hospital as we speak! And the good news is she passed her nuclear stress test (what a scary name for a test!), the bad news is she has congestive heart failure. While it's not curable, it is treatable with diet (low sodium) and medication. She will have to weigh herself everyday and if her weigh flucuates more than three pounds overnight, she has to call the dr asap. A quick, unexplained weight gain like this would indicate the buildup of fluids (that the heart is having a hard time pumping), and would need a trip to the hospital.

She is in great spirits. I was able to spend time with her today while she was in the early stages of her stress test (it takes about 4 hours total), so that was wonderful. I thank God for this wonderful news. It was an answer to a prayer. I got very generic with God this morning in my prayers, merely asking him for some good news for a change. And he was faithful in answering my call. Praise God!!!

I'll be back tomorrow with some eye candy for ya!!! Thanks for all the prayers today! We felt them!

Hugs,
Amy

  2. Praise the Lord - he is good! I'm so glad your mom came home and is doing better. Just keep leaning on Him, as he is our strength and protector. I too am wondering how much more I can take, but I find myself delving into his word and worshipping and I find things seem a little clearer and easier. It's the evenings when I'm tired and worn down that I begin to fall apart. I'll keep you in my prayers and I ask that you remember my family as well. Bless you Amy - you are an inspiration!

  4. I'm so glad to hear that Mom is out of the hospital. My husband was diagnosed 7 years ago with CHF (at the ripe, old age of 28). If I can lend you any practical advice, an ear to listen or a shoulder to lean on, please let me know. :)

  5. Oh yeah, I forgot to add, I have several low-sodium cookbooks. I'd be happy to send one if it'd be helpful. Also, there's a FABULOUS book about CHF called Success With Heart Failure: Help and Hope for Those With Congestive Heart Failure. LOVE that book.

    Nighty night. :)

  6. I'm glad your mom will at least have some solutions to her problems. My hubby had to cut out sodium, and he lost 40 lbs! He quit eating packaged and canned stuff. It's amazing how much sodium is in those things! Yikes. He also started using Nu-Salt - the only thing he said that was closest to salt and sodium free! Now he freshly makes bean soup and many other things and then puts them in 1 cup containers and freezes them, you should see our freezer! Good luck and I'll keep you and her in my prayers!
    Hugs back at ya!

  11. Glad you have Mum home again - yes an answer to prayer. Mum has the same condition - she is in her eighties and still working so hopefully that will be something else positive to add to today. Love to you all.
