Not Such Good News

Stage 4 Lung Cancer.

That's the news my BIL & SIL gave us today when they called after meeting with doctors about Ken's diagnosis. The cancer has spread to his neck and up his skull. He is already experiencing some slight visual disturbances from the advancement of the cancer.

Needless to say, we are devasted by the news. He will start aggressive chemo in about three weeks. In the meantime, they will do more tests and a biopsy as well.
We are all shocked and have only just begun processing this terrible news.

The good news is that Ken is a US Marine. He is a fighter through and through. He will fight until the fight is no longer in him. He has an amazingly positive attitude. And most importantly, he has great faith. These three things are as important as the medicine itself.

Cancer is so limited..
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.

Ken, the fight has just begun and we are with you every step of the way! We love you and will pray for the miracle of God's healing.
The love Ken has showed to my boys since the day they were born! He loves them so much--Ken is wonderful with kids and it shows when he's with the boys goofing off, acting as much like a kid as they do!

Wow! That's all I can say! I take it he's not a smoker?? Everyone thinks that you only get lung cancer from smoking but that's not the case. I'm at risk for it myself but I've never smoked (LONG story). You and your family are in my prayers (always)...what a road you are being asked to walk!! Just remember, He's right by your side!!

    Hugs,

    Mary L.

  23. I just happen to come across your blog and read about your BIL. My thoughts are with you all and remember there are Miracles and I am living proof of it. I have Stage 4 recurring colon cancer. No one has lived passed 5 years with the recurring that I have and I am happy to say I have been off chemo for 2 years, go to the oncologist every 2 to 3 months, and everything is stable and hasn't spread. Miracles do happen and you have to have positive energy and attitude
