Adorable Birdies

Yes, I've got a 'thang' for birds.

It all started with the Hero Arts birds a year or so ago. Since then, I've acquired so many bird stamps! I'll probably keep collecting them as long as I'm able too. If I see a cute bird stamp somewhere, I'm buying it!

Case in point. When I saw the new SU set called A Little Birdie Told Me, I knew I had to have it. I mean, really, aren't these cherubs adorable?? This card marks the very first time these birds have graced the front of one of my cards. I'm so happy they've come to settle in my stamp collection. I think these guys will see lots of ink in their lifetime:)!

I was feeling the need for a little color in my life when I started making this card, so I dug out some of my Scenic Route/Laurel paper collection....this is my all-time favorite paper...evah! These colors just energize me to no end. The blue bird? He's not cut out from the Laurel collection. He's Cool Caribbean cardstock that was first stamped with polka dots with the same color ink. This ties him in with the card base, which is also Cool Caribbean. The birthday hat the big bird is wearing is also Cool Caribbean cardstock with polka dots. To add a little whimsy to the card, I sewed around the edges of the Laurel paper in a curvy fashion....no straight laced sewing allowed when you use this wild stuff! This paper screams FUN, and the curvy sewing ties right in with the idea of FUN.

I really love how this card turned out. I think I need to start using more of these fun colors now that the winter doldrums have set in. We've got more snow here than we've had since 2000. And it's dreary...I don't think we've sun in many days now. The Scenic Route/Laurel collection is the nearest to sun as I can get in this neck of the woods right now! Good thing I've got a healthy stash of it!

We don't have much going on over the next few days. Today the family is heading to the MN Zoo. When I mentioned this to the boys last night at dinner I think they thought I was kidding. I mean, zoos are for little people, aren't they? But they put on their happy faces and agreed to go. I plan on taking lots of pictures with my dSLR camera (the Nikon D40). It will be good practice. Tomorrow and Monday we've got no plans. New Year's Eve will be spent with our good friends the Gonsiors, at their house. We've gotten together every New Years since the kids were little. I have to bring an appetizer and a salad. Does anyone have a fabulous salad recipe they'd be willing to share with me? Please drop me an email if you do, I'd love to see it!

Don't forget to leave a comment to try and win my BLOG CANDY! Click here if you're interested. You have to leave a comment telling me what kind of stamps you are in desperate need of but that no one makes! I'm going to give the list to Julee at Poetic Artistry (Julee's also the brains behind Verve Visual stamps) so she will know what exactly her customers are looking for in regards to stamps. Who knows, your idea just might catch Julee's eye! Currently, I think what what everyone wants most is stamps for MEN (I second that motion), and sentiments for both the OUTSIDE and INSIDE of your cards (great idea). Keep 'em coming ladies!

Have a great day!

Hugs,
Amy

  2. I have a recipe for a green salad made with spinich, pears, craisins, cashews, and a sweet and wonderfully tangy dressing of that has poppy seeds in it. It's to die for. If you'd like the recipe, let me know and I'll dig it out for you!

We get to spend New Year's Eve with some friends too. It's the start of a fun new tradition!

  3. Love the card, Amy. It is so you =D
I'd love to see more stamps that coordinate with Stampin' UP/Marvy punches or Cuttlebug/Sizzix/QK/ dies. I love layering but dislike cutting with scissors. I also second the vote for two part sentiments made for the front and inside of cards.
    Thanks for asking!
    Hugs,
    Colleen

    Amy,
My aunt's Greek Salad is *always* a hit. Romaine lettuce, sliced red onions, pitted black olives, feta cheese, and little grape or cherry tomatoes. Toss that all together then dress with: (shake this up and add before serving -- I usually end up with extra and it will keep at room temp. for a couple of weeks) 2 c. corn oil, 1/2 c cider vinager, 1 T garlic powder, 1 T salt, 1/2 T oregano, 1/2 T Accent (or less). It's easy and delicious. Have a great New Years! Looking forward to your 2008 creations :)
