A New Caardvarks Challenge

Yep, today marks a new challenge over at Caardvarks. This time we're asking you to pull out all those beautiful rub-ons you've got stashed and use them on a card! It's called Rub Me Tender, Rub Me Sweet! I just love all the titles the girls come up with to name their challenges!

To be perfectly honest, I genereally do NOT like rub-ons. So actually, this really was a challenge for me. I don't know about you, but every time I try and use rub-ons, I encounter problems. Either I can't get the rub-ons to RUB OFF onto the paper, or, if I do manage to get them rubbed off onto the paper, they get torn or wrinkled in the process. Grrr. I don't know if it's operator error (please, how hard should it be to rub-off a rub-on?), or product error. Do any of you have problems with rub-ons? Are there some better than others?

Well, regardless of how I feel at the moment about rub-ons, I had a job to do and I was bound and determined to do it with a smile on my face.

Here's my first rub-on card.....isn't it purrrrrty? I got these rub-ons onto my paper fairly easily, but it still took some time to make it happen. No wrinkles or tears though! W00-hoo! The main background paper is by Pink Martini (Verve Visual) and there's a little bit of Rockstar paper on the card as well. I added a little pink heart over the "o" in "you" just to carry on the love theme here. It was fun to use some wild, summer-like colors on my card for a change! Wouldn't this be a cute card to give to the hubster?

My second rub-on card didn't go quite as smoothly as the first one did, which totally bummed me out. Sure enough, the rub-on was difficult to remove and at the very last minute, it tore!!!!!! This is why I get frustrated! The card was so adorable until the rub-on tore. And of course, there was only ONE of this particular rub-on on the sheet, so I couldn't make the card over again. I didn't want to just throw it away because of the ripped rub-on, so I used it anyways, regardless of the tear. I just hope and pray no one really notices it (except you guys, who now fully know I wrecked the card:)! Oh well, live and learn!

So, now that I've ranted and raved about rub-ons, are you going to go prove me wrong and make something really beautiful and tear free? You go girl!

Our sponsor for the challenge is none other than The Embellishment Studio! These are not your standard-issue kits - these kits offer rare, vintage ribbon, off-the-beaten-path embellies, and 3 types of kits to choose from. The ribbon and lace alone are to die for. And our rub-on card challenge winner will be recieving a special edition Christmas Card Kit packed full of beautiful papers, envelopes, buttons, embellishments and of course, yards of luscious vintage ribbons! Woo-hoo! Get those rub-ons out girls and get busy! You have until midnight November 30th to get your masterpieces into the Rub On Gallery! Can't wait to see what you come up with. Good luck!

Hugs,
Amy

No, it's not user error...it DEFINITELY depends on the manufacturer. The easiest rubons to use that I have found are from 7 gypsies. They ruboff with minimal effort and stay where you put them...and it's CONSISTENT across the product line.

Oh Amy...I'm with you on the whole rub on thing...I HATE them...won't use 'em! The thing I hate the most is that weird halo thing that you get around the rub on that you can see. Ugggh...drives me nutters!

I LOVE your first card...saw it over at Caardvarks...knew right away it was yours...so bright and fun. And I can't tell where on the second card your rub on ripped, so it is all good!

  6. I think you did a great job with both cards. You really can't see it on the second card. I don't think I would have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out! Have a wonderful holiday!

  7. I think you did a great job with both of these! I don't have experience with rubons, so I can't help you there. Sorry!
