Makeover Monday!

It's Monday, which means I'm kicking off a brand new feature called Makeover Monday! Each Monday, I'll be altering, or "making over" an everyday item using designer paper, embellishments, and stamping. Typically, I'll show you a "before" and "after" shot of the item I've altered. Unfortunately, I was so excited to makeover the tin I found that I forgot to take a picture of it first. Duh!!! I found the tin at a yard sale this weekend. It was actually in the "free" pile, so the price was right! It was formerly a tin of amaretto cookies. I looked online and found the exact tin that I found at the yard sale! Woo-hoo!

Here is the before shot....I thought the tin would look amazing made over for the holidays. Can you imagine recieving this tin from your neighbor filled with yummy, homemade cookies? Or a handmade scarf? Or a bottle of wine? Perfecto!

And here is the "after" shot. The completed holiday gift tin! Isn't it fun?

To start, I got busy sifting through all my holiday paper from last year. Of course, this fabulous snowman paper called Frosty from Basic Grey caught my eye. It was one of my favorites last year! I used double sided tape to adhere the paper to the tin. One piece of 12x12 almost fit around the full tin, but not quite, so I had to cut an additional skinny strip of the snowman paper to finish covering it.

I cut a 3.5x3.5 piece of paper for the top of the tin as well. The red fringe is vintage from a flea market I was at last summer! I have all this vintage ribbon sitting in my closet going unused, so I thought I'd dig through it to see what I could find. This fringy stuff was the perfect addition to the tin! I glued it around the edges of the tin cover.

The snowmen images are from Stamps Happen. I stamped the image three times on Very Vanilla cardstock. I colored the snowmen with my prismas and gamsol. They are matted with Real Red cardstock. I cut a decorative border around the snowmen using decorative scissors. They are mounted to the tin using dimensional tape. I made a Christmas tag and hung it from the tin using ribbon and attaching it to the tin cover using glue dots. A black vintage button was glued on top of the ribbon to hide the glue dots holding the ribbon to the cover. I added a little red fringe to the tag as well, and also added a snowman I cut from the paper, just to carry on the snowman theme a bit further. Hope you like the tin! I sure do!

It's time for me to run off and go to the club for my 945am class! I'll post some more pictures when I get back. I have a few RAKs I need to highlight, and I've also got a picture of me and my MIL to share!

Hugs,
Amy

  4. This is adorable! I tried to cover some containers this summer (some plastic, some metal, some glass) with paper and none of the paper would stick. What type of adhesive did you use? I tried to use a glue runner like SNAIL.

    Great job on your tin!
