Mellow Out Dude!

What a great header, uh? Just sucked ya right in I bet.....

No, I didn't get in a road rage altercation with someone yesterday...I am just so excited that I was finally able to get my little hands on Basic Grey's new Mellow paper collection! I LOVE IT! It's the perfect paper to take me into the fall season, because the colors just scream FALL!

I used my new Mellow paper on this card that I recently submitted for the Jan 08 CARDS call. Unfortunately, they didn't pick it up. None of the 7 or 8 cards I sent in sparked their interest. One of the catagories they requested cards for was Birthdays, so this was the card I made for that catagory. I LOVED how this one turned out!

I think the layout I used is based on someone's sketch challenge, but I don't remember who's. I think it might have been from Sketch This. If not, and you know where the layout is from, let me know! I started out with a 5x5 square card. It's been a while since I used the square format for one of my cards. I have shied away from making them anymore, because A. I don't have any 5x5 square envelopes, and B. It costs more to mail a square card. Just tiny little matters, really. But I really do love working with square cards!

Anyways, the three Mellow lines I used were Cultured, Flavorful and Savory. Flavorful was the main background, and it was mounted first on Very Vanilla and then mounted onto the front of a brown/white cardstock base. Next, I added a horizontal strip of Savory, and sewed it to the Flavorful paper with a zig zag stitch using my Janome sewing machine. Finally, I sewed on a square piece of the Cultured line to the front of the card, right over the Savory paper.

The sentiment (Happy Birthday set from SU) was stamped on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock. Next I took a very small stamp from my new Fancy Florals Verve stamp set and stamped it randomly all over the VV paper in a very light tan ink. I rubbed Rangers Distressing Ink in Tea Stain over the whole piece to age it. I then mounted the sentiment on a piece of red metallic cardstock and sewed a straight stitch around that. The piece was then mounted to the front of the card using dimensional dots.

Finally, I took two different flower stamps from my Fancy Florals Verve stamp set, again, and stamped one with ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink in Chestnut Roan, and stamped the other flower with More Mustard Ink. I layered one flower on top of the other and secured both with a beautiful decorative brad that ties in with the color scheme and give is some sparkle!

If you read yesterday's post, you know that I am holding my very first blog contest this week! You are making your own BUSINESS CARDS. Remember, you've only got til Saturday at midnight to email me the link (or attach the link in the comment section of yesterday's post) to your creation, so get busy, busy, busy! I can't wait to see what you all come up with! Here are a few more cards to share with you to spark your creative juices.....Celebrity Judge Colleen Schaan made THREE cards yesterday, and I love them! Colleen's going through some very difficult times lately with her home, so I'm so thankful she even found the time and energy to make these for my contest. Thanks Colleen! You ROCK!

So easy, yes? Don't wait another minute to start your card. These shouldn't take up too much time, the size is easy enought to whip out in 20 minutes! Seriously.....

Hugs,

Amy
