Margarita Fiesta!

I knew that would draw you in....just the mere mention of margaritas and you guys are all over it, aren't you????!!! That's ok, me too!

I made this card for my SIL's 50th birthday, which is this coming Saturday. They are having a fiesta at their house to celebrate with their closest friends (like 40-50 of their closest friends:)! Lots of yummy food, and great drinks. I wish I was there again (this is my SIL who I visited in VA last week)!

Since the occasion is such a special one, I thought I'd go all out and make a card to fit the event. The one thing I do know about fiestas is that they are an explosion of color, so I used just about every bright I could find for this card! Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise, Cool Caribbean, Green Galore, Pumpkin Pie, Summer Sun.

I knew I wanted to feature a margarita glass front and center, so I put my thinking cap on and wondered how I could make it happen. The things that come out of my head when I just put on my thinking cap....I should try it more often!

This margarita glass is made with acetate! I went online and found a REAL margarita glass that I liked, printed it out, and then used it as my template for the glass. I used a few pieces of foam tape to adhere it to the acetate so it wouldn't move much while I was cutting it out. Once I got done doing that, I turned it over to the rough side and put my Twinkling H2O paints to work creating the "margarita" inside the glass:)!!!! To add a little sparkle, I sprinkled fine glitter on the paint while it was still wet. The margarita "liquid" is painted with Key Lime H2O paint, and the stem of the glass is painted with Sky Blue H2O's. The salt around the glass rim is glitter applied to the glass using my Tsukineko Glue Pad.

For the limes, I owe credit to the very fantabulous Julie Ebersole, HRR. Last week (or was it this week), she posted a margarita card she had made, and gave us wonderful instructions on how she made her limes! I loved it and wanted to try it for this card! You can see the lime sticking to the rim of the glass and two others sitting at the base of the glass! Aren't they a great touch? Thanks Julie!!!!

The letters are made using my Cuttlebug, and I personalized the card using my Rough Around the Edges alphabet from SU. The inside of the card reads "Take this aging thing with a grain of salt.....on the rim of a margarita!" Woo-hoo, I LOVE that!!!! I had such a good time making this card for Jayne, I hope she likes it! I've got to get it in the mail tomorrow so it gets to her by Friday (I'm sending it priority mail, along with a gift.

Today is my busy day, bible study first, then I'm meeting a baseball mom to shop for our Silent Auction basket for Opening Day, which is Saturday. Our themed basket is "sports". The eye dr. appt went well yesterday. No change except for a little difficulty reading close up (I am having trouble making cards too...). So, all I need to do is buy some cheap "cheaters" to get me through the next year! No corrective lenses! Yippee!

Oh, one last thing. I spoke with my Mom tonight. She finally got the results of her numerous tests that she's been having lately. Remember? First they thought she had a blood clot near her heart, then they thought she had narrowing of the heart arteries. So, the final diagnosis? You won't believe it when I tell you.......she has ASTHMA!!!! Mind you, she's never had it before (I have it though)! She was with her dr. today going over all the test results and the dr. was baffled. She had a thought in the back of her head, so she sent mom down to the lab for a breathing test. Sure enough, her results were poor. They gave her a nebulizer treatment and then had her do it again. Improvement. So, that's what they think it is. She's got a Albuterol inhaler for emergencies, and will be taking Advair (the purple disk), which is a preventative medicine. I take the same thing and it's wonderful! I am so thankful this is all it is. I can handle this sort of news, especially since I know so much about asthma! Thank you for all your prayers, God has answered them!

  1. First, I am so glad to hear that your mom's heart and arteries are good. That's a relief. I've wanted to ask, but not be a pest. Thanks for the update. And, good news on your eyes. :-) Hey, some of those cheaters are sexy, go nuts! They have them with wild and zoingy colors... you'd love that I think. The Fiesta 50 card is great. I don't think it could be more colorful, or Fiesta-ee. Beautiful.

  2. YEA, you don't need glasses that make you feel old, I'm happy for you! AND *Praise* I am so glad to hear that your mom is going to be OK with a little assistance from you and the doctor she'll be able to keep it under control. AND of course I love the card too.

Oh and PS I have been trying to squeeze out some time to *wrap it up* and get that little package of scraps completed and out to you ... soon ... soon (i'm working on it!)

  6. Your card is just too cute! You are soooo creative. I am glad your appointment went well yesterday...did you find out why you were having headaches??? Are you still having them? I hope it is nothing serious. What a relief for your mother! Asthma is no real pleasure, but it is managable. Take care.

My mom is 65 and was just diagnosed with adult-onset asthma too! I don't get it, but I'm glad it's not something more serious.

What is it with stampers and margaritas? You and Mish Wooderson should get together--she's a fan of the drink as well!

Enjoy your busy day. Thanks for all you share...

Good to hear that you mom's diagnoses was nothing too serious. Isn't Athsma funny. I didn't develop it until 18. And I'm the only one in my family who has it. Maybe it's allergy related. You know the allergen index here in MN is BIG this time of year!!!

hope to get together w/you soon. How do find so much time to papercraft?
